As school lets out, Spanky and Alfalfa send Buckwheat and Porky back into the building to deposit a phony doctor's note on the teacher's desk, so that they can skip school the next day and go to the circus. As the teacher's leaving, she tells the boys that she's taking the whole class to the circus. When they run back to the building to retrieve the notes, the little kids are just closing the doors, which are now locked. They show up that night to break into the school and get the note back. Stormy weather, a power outage, and various other spooky happenings, send all four boys - and the janitor - running for their lives. (Synopsis from TV.com)

Little Rascals: Hide and Shriek (1938)
Here is a silent 8mm version of the 1938 Rascals short, "Hide and Shriek". It has been retitled "The Haunted House" for this version. Alfalfa is a private eye, and with the help of Buckwheat and Porky, tracks a couple of suspects, Leonard and Junior, who are accused of stealing Darla's box of candy. The two little kids get into the cab of a flatbed truck, so the three sleuths climb in back and hide in a box. Leonard and Junior, however, simply exit the opposite side, unknown to the older boys. It turns out the truck is taking supplies to a haunted house carnival ride, which is where the boys find themselves, but they think they are encountering actual spooks. (Synopsis from TV.com)

Our Gang: Shivering Spooks (1926)
Originally released August 6, 1926. Years ago I found this short on TV and hit record on the VCR in time to catch the last several minutes. Now it's fairly easily found online. The plot is straightforward. Phony spiritualist Professor Fleece is holding a seance, but is continually interrupted by the gang's noisy ball game outside. He chases them off, but they take refuge in their underground hideout, which just happens to be directly beneath the seance room. They manage to ruin the seance, so Fleece decides to give them a good scare. This silent short contains some great sight gags.

The Three Stooges: If a Body Meets a Body (1945)
Originally released on August 30, 1945, this is one of the last Three Stooges shorts to feature Curly. It is basically a remake of "The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case" (1930). Laurel and Hardy's short and the Stooges' short both used Fred Kelsey in the role of the detective.

Little Rascals: Alfalfa's Aunt (1939)

I once recorded this episode off TV in the late 80s or early 90s, but only caught the tail end of it. The storyline doesn't involve Halloween, but it does include elements that fit the holiday mood. Alfalfa's aunt Penelope is a mystery writer who comes to visit. Alfalfa finds a page from a story she is writing, which is in the form of a letter. It reads:
Dear X,
I have discovered that only my nephew stands between me and the Switzer millions! So like the others, he shall die in agony - tonight - at the stroke of nine!
Believing that his own aunt is planning to murder him, Alfalfa recruits the gang to help protect him from her.
